At West Coast Nut, we are deeply committed to the future of California agriculture, that’s why we proudly support Nickels Soil Lab (NSL), operated by the Leslie J. Nickels Trust, year after year. From all of us, we want to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming response from our community to the Nickels Soil Lab fundraiser. Dinner tickets are almost sold out: many thanks to an incredible response from our community, the Nickels Soil Lab 2025 Fundraiser dinner is almost sold out and we can only accept a couple table and only a few seat reservations. If you have already purchased individual tickets or a host table, we’ll be in touch to confirm guest names and any dietary needs. Make a direct donation to Nickels Soil Lab: even if you couldn’t make our dinner, you can still make a direct donation to Nickels Soil Lab: your gift goes straight to the work happening in the field, supporting research, trials, and grower education at Nickels Soil Lab. Every contribution, of any size, helps keep this grower-focused work moving forward.
Donate an item or experience for the live auction: showcase your brand by donating a product, service package, equipment demonstration, agronomy consult, or behind-the-scenes facility/field tour. Creative items welcome: nut or fruit gift packs, winery visits, field-day ride-alongs, irrigation audits, safety trainings, lodging or dining certificates. All donors receive event recognition; we’ll work with you on display, signage, and bid copy. Born in Hawaii and now based in the Bay Area, Patrick McDermott is a comedian whose clean, semi-absurdist writing and distinctive delivery connect with a wide range of audiences. He’s performed at clubs including The Improv and the Punch Line, at festivals such as Cinequest, and at corporate events and fundraisers. Patrick has also opened for Louie Anderson, Rob Schneider, and Norm Macdonald.

Since the 1970s, Nickels Soil Lab (NSL) has been at the forefront of research and innovation that strengthen California agriculture, from pioneering water-saving drip irrigation to advancing sustainable orchard practices. With your support, this privately owned research farm will continue operating in close cooperation with University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), UC Cooperative Extension, and the Colusa County Water District. Together, we serve as a unique bridge between growers, researchers, local communities, and the future of agricultural innovation for another 50 years and beyond.
