CDFA is seeking applicants for two upcoming Seed Advisory Board seats: one public member and one vegetable seed labeler. Applications are due Friday, October 30, 2026, according to the department’s October 15 announcement.

The appointments run from April 1, 2027, through March 31, 2030. These are unpaid advisory positions, with necessary travel expenses reimbursed under state rules.

The board’s role in seed oversight

The board advises the CDFA secretary on seed law and regulations, enforcement, laboratory diagnostics and the annual budgets needed to carry out the California Seed Law.

Its industry representation comprises seven seed labelers and two members who may be seed dealers. Those nine members must be registered to sell seed and represent seed production, conditioning, marketing or utilization. Two additional seats represent the public.

Term and application requirements

Members serve three-year terms and typically meet twice a year, although additional meetings may be needed.

Applicants should submit a brief resume and Form 68-005-SAB, the Vacancy Questionnaire, to Nicole Hostert, Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor. Materials can be emailed to seedservices@cdfa.ca.gov or mailed to CDFA’s Pest Exclusion Branch, 1220 N Street, Room 241, Sacramento, CA 95814, attention Nicole Hostert.

The Seed Services Program can answer questions at (916) 537-6577. The questionnaire is available through CDFA’s forms resources.
